Self-replacement thermostat

Thermostat is a small device, performing the function of maintaining a constant temperature in the ICE. During engine operation, the thermostat is able to block the antifreeze, thus preventing it from getting into the radiator before it is fully warmed up. While it is closed, the coolant moves through a small circle to ensure a gradual warm-up of the engine. As soon as the temperature of the ICE reaches 95 degrees, the thermostat opens, the heated liquid begins to move along a large circle and enters the radiator.

The car thermostat is regularly exposedexposure to aggressive liquids and, as a result, corrosion. The thermostat can be checked in the following way: the engine is started and warmed up to the working optimum temperature. Then the ignition is turned off and the hood is opened, after which it is necessary to touch the radiator hoses, first to the top, then to the bottom. These two hoses should ideally be quite hot. If one of them is cold, respectively, it is broken and a replacement of the thermostat is required. It is worthwhile to look at whether there is no need to clean the radiator, as this sometimes is one of the reasons for overheating.

Self-replacement of the thermostat requires some simple skills and the following set of items:

- Gauze or clean bandage.

- Plastic containers: 1 and 5 liters.

- Flat screwdriver.

- Allen key.

And, of course, a new thermostat.

Only if there is all that is necessary can the thermostat be replaced:

It is necessary to detach the tube in two placesair intake: from the air filter housing and right-hand column near the headlight. After that, the engine should cool slightly, then carefully and slowly in the cooling system, the pressure decreases. This is done gradually, by unscrewing the plug of the expansion tank.

Next you will need pre-cookedplastic containers. Five-liter is cut into two parts so that the so-called "tongue" is formed in its lower part. It will be required this part of the bottle, it must be substituted from below so that the thermostat module is tightly gripped by the "tongue".

After completing this simple operation, you canBegin to loosen the thermostat mounting bolt. It is worth remembering the strict sequence of this work, it is necessary to start from the bottom to the upper, after - to the located from the rear.

The lower bolt, which is below the others, unscrewed with a key for several turns. The bolt from above must be loosened for a couple of turns, and the rear bolt must be tightened one by one. As a result, these manipulations lead to the formation in the front of the slit, through which the coolant flows out through a special tongue into the plastic container. If necessary, you can speed up the process by slightly opening the gap.

After it flows about a liter of coolingliquid, you can unscrew the bolts, while carefully poking a flat screwdriver into the slot and shifting the thermostat. Do this very carefully, as there is a high probability of damage to the thermostat gaskets.

After the bottle is about 3liter of antifreeze, it can be filtered using gauze or bandage, and then pour into a plastic whole bottle. The cut off part is again put under the thermostat, the bolts are loosened up to the end, and the defective thermostat is dismantled. The new unit is neatly installed into place, but you should pay attention to the fact that the spring was turned to the engine. Then, the bolts are tightened, and the cork releasing the air, which is located on the hose leading to the stove, is unscrewed. After that, the filtered antifreeze is poured back into the system, and all the plugs are twisted, thus the replacement of the thermostat is completed. The engine can only be started after a thorough check of all the bolts.
